TheFixCar.com is a car information site. The data controller is TheFixCar.com, reachable at tech@thefixcar.com.
What the site collects
Every web server logs incoming requests. When you visit, our server records your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and which pages you loaded. That is standard HTTP logging, not something we added on top. These logs are kept for up to 30 days and used for troubleshooting and basic traffic monitoring. After that they are deleted.
If you contact us by email, we keep the correspondence in our inbox. We do not use a CRM, mailing list software, or any tool that tags or scores contacts. It is a regular email inbox.
The calculators on this site — fuel cost, road trip, car suitability — run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent to our server and are not stored anywhere.
Cookies
We show a consent banner on first visit. Your choice is stored in one cookie: tfc_consent_v1. It expires after 180 days. That cookie stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere external.
Here is what each cookie category actually does on this site right now:
Necessary — always on. Only the tfc_consent_v1 cookie. No third-party scripts load under this category.
Analytics — off by default, requires your consent. We use Google Analytics and Ahrefs Analytics. Both scripts load only after you accept analytics cookies. They collect which pages were visited, approximate country, browser, and device type. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy. Ahrefs’ is at ahrefs.com/privacy-policy.
Preferences — off by default. Not actively in use. The category exists in the consent UI but nothing loads under it.
Marketing — off by default. No advertising or remarketing tools are running on this site. This category is present in the consent panel as a placeholder in case we add them later. Currently nothing loads under it.
You can change your cookie settings at any time using the cookie settings button at the bottom of any page.
Third parties
These are the external services the site actually uses:
- Google Analytics (analytics.google.com) — analytics. Loaded only with your consent. Google is based in the US; data may be processed on EU infrastructure under Google’s data processing terms.
- Ahrefs Analytics (analytics.ahrefs.com) — analytics. Loaded only with your consent. Ahrefs is based in Singapore with infrastructure in the US and EU.
- Hosting — the site runs on a private VPS. The hosting provider processes server-level logs as part of normal infrastructure operation.
- WP Rocket — a caching plugin that runs server-side. It does not send any visitor data to WP Rocket’s servers.
We use Google Analytics (analytics.google.com) to track site usage — pages visited, session duration, approximate location, device and browser type. Google Analytics cookies are loaded only after you accept analytics cookies. Google processes this data on their infrastructure; their privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not currently run advertising, but plan to add ad tools in the future. When that happens, this section will be updated before any ad scripts go live. The marketing category in the cookie panel is off by default and will remain so until then.
Legal basis for processing (EEA and UK visitors)
Server logs and basic site operation: legitimate interest (keeping the site running and secure).
Analytics cookies: consent.
Email correspondence: legitimate interest or contract performance, depending on context.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything that happened before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email tech@thefixcar.com. Requests are handled manually — there is no automated portal. We will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you can lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
Data retention
Server logs: up to 30 days, then deleted.
Email correspondence: kept as long as the conversation is relevant, reviewed and cleared periodically.
Cookie preference: 180 days, stored in your browser only.
There is no user account system on this site, so there is no account data to retain or delete.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS. Server access is restricted. There is no e-commerce and no payment processing — we do not handle card data or financial information of any kind.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, the “last updated” date at the top will change. We will not send an email notification.
